This fellowship provides a fully-integrated approach to the diagnosis and management of the full spectrum of athletic injuries.
Goals and Characteristics
This fellowship is designed to provide the most thorough clinical, surgical, academic and research experience in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries occurring in the full spectrum of sports.
The Thomas Jefferson University Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is based at the Rothman Institute located in Philadelphia's Center City as well as at Lankenau, Methodist, Nazareth and Riddle Memorial Hospitals in the Philadelphia Suburban region. The fellows work with six sports medicine fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeons in addition to three fellowship trained primary care sports medicine physicians. This allows for a well-rounded sports medicine educational program.
The fellow is involved in the pre-participation screening of athletes at the professional, collegiate and high school levels. Surgical experience includes the full breadth of arthroscopic and open treatment of knee, shoulder, and elbow problems, as well as arthroplasty of the knee and shoulder. The fellow is involved with the management of the athlete in the clinic, on the athletic field, and in the operating room.�

Research
The Rothman Institute has a full-time research staff and facilities available for sports medicine research of any interest. At least two basic science or clinical research projects suitable for presentation and publication must be produced during the fellowship. Monthly research meetings are held to facilitate the research process. The fellows have one half day per week for research, although ample additional time is available for research endeavors. The fellow is expected to present at sports medicine conferences which are attended by physicians, fellows, residents and medical students.�

Requirements
Applicant must have:
- Completed an approved Orthopaedic Residency.
- Submitted a Thomas Jefferson University Hospital application and a curriculum vitae with a phone number or email active through May of next year.
- Completed and submitted the results of Part I, II and III of USMLE testing.
- Current photograph.
- At least three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the Residency�Director.
- Medical School transcript.
- Medical School Dean's letter.
