This Fellowship provides an integrated approach to the diagnosis and management of the full-spectrum of hip and knee arthritis.
Goals and Characteristics
The Fellowship is designed to provide a comprehensive clinical and academic experience for the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis of the hip and knee.
The Thomas Jefferson University Joint Replacement Fellowship Program is based at the Rothman Institute located in Philadelphia's Center City as well as other locations in the Greater Philadelphia region. The Fellows each have 3 surgical days, one clinic day and one research day per week. The surgical experience involves a high-volume of primary and revision total hip and knee replacement as well as joint preservation surgery.
Research and Conferences
The Rothman Institute has full-time research staff and facilities available for hip and knee research. A minimum two basic science or clinical research projects suitable for presentation at national and international meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals must be produced during the Fellowship. Weekly research meetings are held to facilitate the research process. The Fellows have one protected full day per week for research, although ample additional time is available for research endeavors. The Fellow is expected to present at joint replacement conferences that are attended by the Staff, Fellows, Residents and Medical Students. There are weekly preoperative-postoperative conferences, preoperative planning conferences, and two didactic teaching sessions weekly.

Salary is commensurate with a PGY6 level.
The Fellow is provided malpractice insurance, hospital, medical and dental insurance (for self and dependents).
Four weeks of vacation.
The Fellow is sponsored at one continuing education/academic course and for approved meetings where the Fellow is presenting his or her research work.
Requirements
Applicant must have completed or on schedule to complete an approved Orthopaedic Residency prior to commencing the Fellowship.
